The artists are based in the Fleurieu Peninsula, the Coorong and Kangaroo Island and will include: Gina Allain, Kath Beauchamp, Tracey Grivell, Jelina Haines, Chris de Rosa, Lindy Sando, Deb Sleeman, Ellen Trevorrow and Margaret Worth.
Opening Event: 1.00pm Sunday 15th August 2021
Opener:
Speaker:
Elspeth Pitt, NGA Curator Australian Painting & Sculpture.
Exhibition Dates:
SALA August 14th – September 27th 2021
Location: Coral Street Arts Space, Victor Harbor SA
Purpose:
1. To promote the work of women artists in the ideas/concept-based areas of practice.
2. To challenge and develop common perceptions. Notions of scale, context and application will be shifted with works that inhabit their space.
3. To present diversity in practice. Ghostnet weaving, panel constructions, welding, recycled metals, glasswork, painting and moving image will be included.
4. To expand perceptions of what creates/constitutes value. Especially in rural and regional communities, visual art is valued in its applied form – when it has an application to useful things. What this exhibition emphasizes is the imagination and aesthetic sensibility that the creators bring to the works. These qualities are increasingly important to our culture.
Education: Exhibiting artists will offer a Q&A panel event to answer questions about arts practice: managing the production of ambitious works and sustainability in practices., Sun.15th August 4.00 – 5.00pm booking required.
